“Just in case you still had hope in the Republican ‘revolution,’ give it up. Discretionary spending under the new federal budget is expected to increase 5.8 percent over last year. Remember that big, bad Department of Education that Republicans were going to abolish once voters would give them control of Congress? Its budget in 1995 was $24.4 billion; this year, it increases to $35.6 billion! The Washington Post put it well: ‘Republicans decided it was wiser to yield than fight.’ Look at the bright side: you were witness to the first pro-government revolution in history.”
