“I fall into the camp that says that Al Gore has the right to pursue all legal remedies in his attempt to establish that he is entitled to Florida’s electoral votes. But I wish he would stop with all this nonsense about how he’s fighting to protect the principles of democracy. The quest for the presidency, by both Gore and Bush, is about two things: money and power. We’re talking about controlling $1.8 trillion here. That’s not pocket change, as it can buy lots of loyalty and votes in the future. As commander of chief of the wars on drugs, poverty, wealth, guns, and immigrants, the president destroys tens of thousands of lives every year. And he also gets to drop bombs on people anywhere in the world without anybody’s approval. And don’t forget that the president will also be our new national superintendent of schools. Aren’t all those people who are suggesting that Gore sacrifice his political ambitions for the good of the country being a little naive? After all, what drug addict would ever willingly give up a chance at owning a warehouse stocked with a free 4-year supply of drugs?”
