Laurence Vance is one of the most courageous libertarians I have ever known. A devout Christian, he has been relentless and uncompromising in emphasizing two important points about U.S. foreign policy: (1) Since the U.S. has waged a war of aggression, rather than a defensive war, against Iraq, the killing of the Iraqi people has violated both moral principles and the laws of God; and (2) Obedience to orders does not excuse a soldier’s violations of the laws of God.
Laurence is the author of 12 books, including Christianity and War and Other Essays Against the Warfare State. Holding degrees in history, accounting, and economics, Laurence is an adjunct instructor in accounting at Pensacola Junior College in Pensacola, Florida. He is a regular contributor to Lew Rockwell.com and has written several articles for The Future of Freedom Foundation.
At last year’s conference, Laurence delivered one of the most powerful and moving talks of the conference. No doubt he will do so again.
Karen Kwiatkowski is also one of the most courageous libertarians in the libertarian movement. A retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel who served in the Pentagon, Karen has played a leading role in opposing the pro-empire, pro-interventionist foreign policy of the federal government and supporting the restoration of a limited-government republic to our land.
Karen was featured in the documentary Why We Fight, which won the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. She earned an MA from Harvard University and MS in Science Management from the University of Alaska. She earned her Ph.D. in World Politics from Catholic University and also completed both Air Command and Staff College and Naval War College seminar programs.
Karen has written for Lew Rockwell.com, American Conservative, Salon.com, Antiwar.com, and others. Her talk at last year’s conference was one of the two speeches covered by C-SPAN.
