If I were asked to rank libertarians for integrity, courage, and devotion to principle, I would place James Bovard and Sheldon Richman in a tie for first place. One of my personal highlights of being president of The Future of Freedom Foundation is having had the honor of working closely with both Jim and Sheldon for some 15 years in the advancement of liberty. Both of them have long been regular monthly contributors to our journal Freedom Daily, and both of them are returning as speakers for our exciting upcoming June 6-8 conference “Restoring the Republic: Foreign Policy and Civil Liberties.”
Jim Bovard has long served as a policy advisor for FFF. He has written some of the greatest libertarian books ever, including Lost Rights: The Destruction of American Liberty, Attention Deficit Disorder, Terrorism and Tyranny, and six others. His books have received several awards and Bovard himself is the recipient of the Thomas Szasz Award for Civil Liberties. The Wall Street Journal called him the “roving inspector general of the modern welfare state.”
What has always distinguished Jim’s work is his absolute fearlessness in confronting governmental wrongdoing as well as the integrity and accuracy of his work. One of the times that these traits were on display was in the aftermath of the federal massacre of the Branch Davidians at Waco, when Bovard’s articles ensured that the tragedy would remain within the consciousness and conscience of the American people.
Jim’s work has appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Readers’ Digest, and many other publications. His books have been translated into Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, and Korean.
Sheldon Richman has long served as senior fellow at FFF. He is the author of leading books in the libertarian movement on three important issues of our time: Separating School & State: How to Liberate America’s Families: Tethered Citizens: Time to Repeal the Welfare State; and Your Money or Your Life: Why We Must Abolish the Income Tax, all of which were published by FFF. For many years, he has also written a weekly op-ed for FFF that is sent to thousands of newspapers across the land.
Sheldon serves as editor of The Freeman, one of the libertarian movement’s finest publications, which is published by The Foundation for Economic Education, one of the oldest libertarian educational foundations in the country. He is a regular contributor to the magazine as well as a speaker at FEE’s many excellent seminars at its headquarters in Irvington-on-Hudson, New York.
Sheldon is one of those writers who have the unique capacity to distill complex historical, economic, and political concepts into an easily readable format. His essays on liberty are always principled, timely, informative, and easy to read. His articles have appeared in such publications as Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, USA Today, and many others. He is a contributor to the Fortune Encyclopedia of Economics.
To register for the conference, go to our conference website or call us at 703-934-6101. Remember to make your hotel reservations at the Hyatt Regency Reston after you register for the conference; be sure to mention the FFF conference to secure the special discounted rate of $149 per night, which is incredibly cheap for a Hyatt in the D.C. area in June.
NOTICE: We are opening up the conference to daily attendance: $195 per day, including meals and speeches.
Don’t delay! Register today!
Sincerely,
Jacob Hornberger
