We have received a donation of $2,500 to cover five student scholarships for our June 1-4 conference Restoring the Republic: Foreign Policy and Civil Liberties. If you are a student who would like to attend the conference, or if you would like to nominate a student to attend, the selections will be based on the best five essays we receive by the students on any aspect of foreign policy or civil liberties. The essay should be no longer than 1,000 words and we must receive it by March 7.
My two previous speaker spotlights highlighted Jim Bovard, Ralph Raico, Bob Higgs, and Lew Rockwell. This weeks spotlight highlights the next two speakers on the program, Justin Raimondo and Karen Kwiatkowski.
Justin is the editorial director of antiwar.com, the premier libertarian antiwar website in the world. His weekly articles on current events on war, foreign policy, and civil liberties are lively, analytical, hard-hitting, and entertaining. There is no better website than antiwar.com for daily compilations of the latest news articles and commentaries all over the Internet on issues relating to foreign policy, the war on terrorism, the invasion and occupation of Iraq, and assaults on civil liberties. I heard Justin speak at a LewRockwell.com conference in California last year, where he delivered one of the most entertaining and informative talks of the conference.
I have not yet had the good fortune of personally meeting Karen Kwiatkowski but Ive spoken to her on the telephone, communicated by email, and have appeared on her radio show. I am also a regular reader of her columns on LewRockwell.com and MilitaryWeek.com. Shes one of the speakers that Im really looking forward to meeting at the conference. Karen is one of the nicest, most personable, most genuine, principled, and courageous people youll ever encounter. A former Air Force colonel who served in the Pentagon, Karen has taken a courageous and principled stand against the wrongful direction of U.S. foreign policy. She appeared in the recent film documentary Why We Fight, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.
The registration price for the conference is $495, which includes all ten Hyatt Regency meals at the conference plus 24 of the greatest speakers youll ever hear. More and more people continue to tell me that they have never seen such an all-star line-up of speakers for a conference.
Reminder: We only have a limited number of super-discounted rooms at the Hyatt Regency Reston ($144 per night). Once those rooms expire, the regular room rate will zoom to more than $200 per night.
The words of John Henry Cardinal Newman are a reminder as to why you dont want to miss this conference:
“The general principles of any study you may learn by books at home; but the detail, the colour, the tone, the air, the life which makes it live in us, you must catch all these from those in whom it lives already.”
