“Washington, D.C., is a magnet for protesters and demonstrators of all political stripes and ideologies, and this weekend is no exception. The Million Mom March expects to attract 150,000 gun-control advocates in the name of protecting families from gun-related violence. Participants can expect the usual array of statistics, personal testimonials, and slogan shouting, but another pro-family, anti-violence group will be holding its own demonstration that same day: the Second Amendment Sisters. While the Million Mom March views guns and families as antithetical agendas, the Sisters promote gun ownership as a means of preserving the family in the face of danger. They contend that gun laws benefit the criminals at the family’s expense — good people will abide by gun laws as they do other laws; bad people will ignore gun controls as they do other laws. This weekend the Second Amendment Sisters want to show responsible gun ownership as a positive right, not as a destructive curse. A gun is a gun: laws cannot dictate how the heart decides to use it. “
