President Biden, Nancy Pelosi, the Pentagon, and the CIA assure us that their machinations regarding Taiwan are motivated by their deep concern for the welfare of the Taiwanese people. How ridiculous is that? What amazes me is that they honestly believe that people are going to believe such nonsense. What amazes me even more is that there are still people around who do believe such nonsense.
The U.S. provocations regarding Taiwan are for one — and only one — purpose: to gin up another crisis. What better way to justify the continued existence of the U.S. national-security establishment and the vast “defense” industry and their ever-increasing taxpayer-funded largess?
A national-security state always needs crises and official enemies. It has to keep people agitated and afraid. In that way, people will say, “Oh, my gosh, thank goodness we have the national-security establishment to keep us safe. Please give them more of my income and please let them take more of my rights and freedoms away from me.”
That’s what the entire Cold War racket was all about. The Reds are coming! The Reds are coming! For 45 years, Americans were inculcated with a deep fear of the commies, who were supposedly coming to get us as part of a supposed international conspiracy that was supposedly based in Moscow, Russia — yes, that Russia! There was even a 1966 movie entitled The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming! And who can forget the 1984 movie Red Dawn, which posited a Russian occupation of the United States?
The Cold War ended for Russia and China in 1989. But as we now know, it never ended for the U.S. national-security establishment. Even while they were ginning up for a gigantic “global war on terror” with their foreign-policy interventionist antics in Iraq and the Middle East, they were doing everything they could to revive their Cold War against Russia and China.
That was what keeping NATO, the old Cold War bureaucratic dinosaur, in existence was all about. It was also what expanding NATO to Russia’s borders was all about. They knew that ultimately the expansion would produce a crisis. And as we all know, it did. Voila! Cold War II against Russia, albeit without the Red component.
That’s what initiating a vicious trade war with China was all about. And it’s what the current provocations regarding Taiwan are all about. Voila! Cold War II against China, with the Red component.
And on top of this is the “global war on terror,” which has now become a permanent, integral part of our governmental structure, including the use of state-sponsored assassinations.
Concern for the Taiwanese people? Don’t make me laugh. Where was the concern for the people of Hong Kong? Why didn’t the Pentagon and the CIA send us into war against them? Better yet, how about the people of South Vietnam? They have been suffering under communist rule since 1975. I don’t see the Pentagon and the CIA getting ready to re-invade Vietnam to save the South Vietnamese from communist tyranny.
Indeed, how much concern was there for the people of Afghanistan? For twenty years, the Pentagon and the CIA wreaked untold death and destruction onto the Afghan people, 99 percent of whom had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks. And there was never an upward limit on the number of people they were willing to kill to bring “enduring freedom” to Afghanistan.
It’s the same with Iraq, a country that never attacked the United States. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed, maimed, and injured, not only during the U.S. invasion and occupation but also in the 11 years before the invasion as a consequence of the brutal sanctions that the U.S. imposed on the Iraqi people.
What about the people of Cuba, who still are made to suffer under the U.S. government’s brutal Cold War embargo against them? Try convincing them that the Cold War ended in 1989.
Let’s not forget the people of Saudi Arabia, who are consigned to live out their lives under a brutal, murderous, tyrannical regime. How much concern was expressed for them during Biden’s fist bump with Saudi brute Mohammed bin Salman?
All these invasions, occupations, crises, chaos, sanctions, embargoes, and provocations have nothing to do with concern for anyone and anything except for the continued power and financial well-being of the Pentagon, the vast military-industrial complex, the “defense” industry, the weapons manufacturers, the CIA, and the NSA. The sooner Americans come to that realization, the sooner we can get our country back on the right road — toward liberty, peace, prosperity, harmony, and the restoration of a limited-government republic.
