Video Message 2 – Economic Liberty Lecture Series
A Message from Jacob Hornberger – Video 2 from The Future of Freedom Foundation on Vimeo.
The Future of Freedom Foundation is one of the most important organizations in the liberty movement. FFF does great work educating the public in the principles of free-market economics, individual liberty, and a noninterventionist foreign policy.

Working with FFF on the Economic Liberty Lecture Series has helped us inform large numbers of students about the benefits of a free society through the understanding of economics.

Dear Friend of Freedom,
The Future of Freedom Foundation has always been at the forefront in the defense of civil liberties and the Bill of Rights. In fact, the seventh issue of our journal, Freedom Daily July 1990 contained three articles on that topic, including my lead article, The Forgotten Importance of Civil Liberties. After the 9/11 attacks, FFF held the Restoring the Republic: Foreign Policy and Civil Liberties conferences, in which we brought together an array of conservative, liberal, and libertarian speakers to discuss the increasing infringements on civil liberties as part of the governments war on terrorism.
Now we are pleased to announce an exciting new program. In the coming year, The Future of Freedom Foundation will be partnering with the Young Americans for Liberty, a fire-in-the-belly national libertarian student group that came into existence in the wake of Ron Pauls 2008 presidential campaign, to send a civil-liberties panel on a college tour entitled The War on Terrorism, Civil Liberties, and the Constitution.
The panel will consist of three lawyers from different ideological backgrounds, all three of whom are fiercely committed to the defense of civil liberties. Bruce Fein, a former Justice Department attorney in the Reagan administration and one of the most spellbinding speakers in the country, will present the conservative case for civil liberties. Glenn Greenwald, a Salon.com blogger and prominent author whom Forbes magazine named one of the top 25 most influential liberals in the country, will defend civil liberties from the liberal perspective. And having practiced law for 12 years, I will present the libertarian case. Moderating the panel will be noted writer Jack Hunter of American Conservative magazine.
Today, there is an ever-growing need to focus on the vital importance of civil liberties; and as you know, its young people who form the foundation for the future of freedom. Given the ideological diversity of the speakers, we have a good chance of attracting students from all across the political spectrum to these discussions. We will have plenty of free copies of Freedom Daily and our booklet Economic Liberty and the Constitution to give out to everyone.
Its been an active year here at FFF. We kicked off the year with a panel and an exhibit at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington and followed that up with presentations and exhibits at FreedomFest in Las Vegas and the Liberty Political Action Conference in Reno. I also recently delivered a talk at the Students for Liberty regional conference in Philadelphia. This month, I spoke at an annual freedom seminar in Portland, Oregon, and delivered a lecture on libertarianism to a private high school in Portland.
We continue holding our Economic Liberty Lecture Series at George Mason University in conjunction with the GMU Economics Society, a student group that, year after year, is infused with a passion for economic liberty, free markets, and Austrian economics. During the semester, we meet monthly to eat pizza, listen to a great lecture on economic liberty, and then adjourn to a nearby grill for appetizers and more fun discussion. This year, we kicked off a new program an informal law and economics seminar that I am conducting with the GMU Economics Society in which were analyzing monetary policy and the Constitution in the context of the Legal Tender Cases.
We continue to spread the ideas of liberty on the airwaves, on both domestic and international radio and television shows. Most exciting has been the opportunity to appear as a regular commentator on Judge Andrew Napolitano’s show, Freedom Watch on the Fox Business Network. Did you ever think you’d see the day when hard-hitting libertarian perspectives would be presented on national television? I absolutely love doing that show! It made my day when one of the shows researchers sent me an email saying, The Judge always enjoys having you as our libertarian stalwart. ,
We hope that you have also had the opportunity to tune in to my Internet show on Saturday evenings, where I talk informally about the issues facing our nation. And we hope you’re enjoying the expanded number of weekly columnists whose articles are now appearing in our daily FFF Email Update, which we continue striving to make the finest daily libertarian commentary page on the Internet. We continue doing the same with our flagship publication, Freedom Daily, which we have now been publishing monthly for 22 years. Its in Freedom Daily that we focus on the principles of freedom at a deeper level, providing timeless articles on the moral, philosophical, and economic case for libertarianism.
None of this would be possible without your generous (tax-deductible) support. We have done our best to put your donations to good use, and we hope that we have earned your support for the coming year.
Yours for freedom,
Jacob Hornberger
P.S. A few dedicated volunteers have worked diligently to construct a foundation for our new website, and were in the process of getting an all-new design in place. We think you’re really going to like it!
P.P.S. When you make a $250 donation to FFF, you become a member of our FFF Freedom Club. You will receive an FFF umbrella and a monthly email video message from me catching you up on our activities and giving you a short libertarian analysis of important issues facing our country.
